U.S. Department of State calls on resolving situation in Donbas peacefully

The U.S. Department of State notes that the problem occurred in eastern Ukraine because of the introduction a temporary ban on transporting cargo in Donbas should be resolved peacefully.

U.S. State Department Acting Spokesperson Mark Toner states this during a press briefing on Thursday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

“We’re closely monitoring this blockade in eastern Ukraine,” he said.

At the same time, he stressed the importance of “resolving the issue peacefully and in a way that supports Ukraine’s territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders”

According to the U.S. State Department Acting Spokesperson, this issue is ones “with potentially serious consequences”.

“We want to see it resolved peacefully and, as I said, in a way that supports Ukraine’s territorial integrity,” he summarized.

As Ukrinform earlier reported, the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) on March 15 decided to suspend the transportation of cargo across the contact line in Donbas. President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on March 16 issued a decree approving the NSDC decision.
