Along the Black Sea coast in Odesa, sea horses have been found washed up on the shore at densities of 2-92 specimens per square meter of coastline. The number of dead individuals gradually decreases in the direction of the 16th station of the Big Fountain.

This was reported by the State Environmental Inspection of the South-Western District on Facebook, based on survey results, Ukrinform reports.

Seawater samples have been taken to determine the possible causes of death of aquatic organisms. The tests will be carried out in the inspection laboratory.

The agency notes that information about the mass death of Black Sea seahorses (Hippocampus guttulatus) on the coast, particularly in the area of Odesa's Lanzheron Beach, has been spreading since yesterday.

On January 28, state inspectors surveyed the coastal strip from Lanzheron to the 16th station of Big Fontan. During the survey, they recorded seahorse dumping along the coastline.

Experts continue to monitor the condition of the coastal zone. The public will be informed of the research results upon completion.
