On January 24 at 11:00, a press conference is held on the topic: "Missile strikes on Ukraine, persecution and torture: what Crimea was like in 2022."

Organizers: Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform, Crimean Human Rights Group, and ZMINA Human Rights Center.

Speakers:

Olha Skrypnyk, Head of the Board of the Crimean Human Rights Group;

Volodymyr Chekryhin, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Crimean Human Rights Group;

Iryna Sedova, Researcher with the Crimean Human Rights Group (online);

Bohdan Melnykovych, Lawyer with the Crimean Human Rights Group.

In short, the participants will present an overview of the situation of  human rights and norms of international humanitarian law in Crimea over 2022.

According to rights activists, 2022 was the year of the most extensive systematic violations of human rights as the peninsula turned into one of the Russian bridgeheads for attacks on Ukraine.

In 2022, Crimea became not only a place of detention for political prisoners, but also a prison for people abducted by the Russian military from the south of Ukraine. Last year was also marked by a new wave of persecution of Crimeans for supporting Ukraine.

This is an offline event (Hall 1) + online bit.
