Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has said that the issue of domestic passports in the form of an ID card with an electronic digital signature (EDS) will begin this autumn, and by the end of the year such a signature will be available on a SIM card as part of the MobileID program.

"The issue of internal passports in the form of an ID card with an electronic digital signature will begin this autumn, and MobileID (an EDS on a SIM card) will be launched in Ukraine by the end of the year," he wrote on his Facebook page on Tuesday.

Groysman said that the provision of Ukrainians with reliable means of electronic identification contributed to the spread of electronic services. So far such a means in Ukraine is an electronic digital signature. "So I would advise all Ukrainians who do not yet have an EDS to get it," he added.

He said that the introduction of electronic services was a priority for the government. Therefore, it is planned to introduce a number of online services by the end of the year, in particular, online childbirth and marriage registration, he added.

According to him, the most popular electronic service now is the registration of an individual entrepreneur. A total of 1,211 entrepreneurs have already been registered with the help of this service.

From January 1, 2016, Ukraine started issuing internal passports of a new model in the form of a plastic ID card. The current legislation does not foresee the obligatory replacement of paper passports of citizens with plastic ID cards with an electronic chip. According to rough estimates, Ukraine will finally switch to ID cards in four years, Radio Liberty reported.
