Fake by Russian propaganda: Western allies “losing interest” in Ukraine because of events in Middle East
Russian Telegram channels and bots on the social network X are spreading what they claim is a new cover of the American magazine The Nation. The image shows a caricature of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, reading news from the Middle East and “complaining” that the focus of global media has shifted from the war in Ukraine to the U.S. and Israeli operation against Iran.

This is fake. No such cover exists either on The Nation’s official website or on the magazine’s social media accounts, where the covers of new issues are normally published.
It should be noted that The Nation is published monthly. The original March issue focused on U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem and domestic policy issues related to migration.

There have also been no references to Ukraine in issues from previous months.

This Russian propaganda fake is aimed at convincing Western societies that Ukraine has allegedly been left without allied support in its war against Russia due to fighting in the Middle East. However, this does not correspond to reality.
According to the Center for Strategic Communications SPRAVDI, Russian information resources are working to amplify the message that Western partners may weaken their support for Ukraine because attention is supposedly “shifting” to Iran and the Middle East. This includes manipulation of the content of publications in Politico and other global media, as well as statements made by President Zelensky in an interview with Corriere della Sera. Analysts reported that on March 3 alone, more than two thousand manipulative messages on this topic were recorded in the media space.
It is worth noting that Russian propagandists frequently create and distribute fake covers of well-known foreign magazines. Among the “creative works” of these fake producers are forged covers of the German magazine Titanic, the French publications Courrier International and Franc-Tireur, the Indian weekly Ananda Vikatan, the American political satire magazine Humor Times, and the Spanish satirical magazine El Jueves, among others.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, Russian propaganda earlier forged a Charlie Hebdo cover featuring a fake Christmas greeting from Zelensky.
