Fire breaks out near nuclear power plant in United Arab Emirates following drone attack
According to Ukrinform, city authorities stated this on social media platform X.
The fire occurred at a power generator outside the inner perimeter of the plant in the Al Dhafra region and was caused by a drone strike.
Authorities said no casualties have been reported and that the incident did not affect radiological safety.
Officials stated that "precautionary measures" were taken.
The UAE Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation confirmed that the fire did not affect the plant's safety or the readiness of its core systems, and that all units are operating normally.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said that Unit 3 of the Barakah plant switched to diesel generators due to the fire involving an external power generator.
The agency added that it is closely monitoring the situation, maintaining constant contact with UAE authorities, and stands ready to provide assistance if needed.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, Iranian drones also targeted a key oil hub in the UAE — the port of Fujairah — where a large fire broke out, as well as Dubai airport.
