Forest fire contained on 250 hectares in Zhytomyr region

In the Polissia Nature Reserve in the Zhytomyr region, rescuers and forestry workers continue efforts to eliminate a large-scale forest fire. The blaze has been extinguished over an area of 250 hectares.

The press service of the State Emergency Service (SES) reported this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.

"As of 19:00, the fire has been contained over an area of 250 hectares. No further spread of the flames has been recorded. In certain forest sections, smoldering dry vegetation, standing trees, and forest litter continues," the statement said.

To contain the fire in the swampy area, representatives of the State Forest Protection Service carried out a counter-fire operation. In addition, sappers inspected certain forest sections to safely establish firebreaks.

The situation is being monitored using drones.
