Second fatality in Lviv terror attack on Feb 22 as National Guard soldier dies in hospital

This was reported on Telegram by Andrii Sadovyi, the Mayor of Lviv.

“Unfortunately, we have suffered another loss following the terror attack in Lviv. Yosyp Pavlynskyi arrived at the scene that evening along with other services. He was helping to move people away and establish a safe perimeter when the second explosion occurred. Yosyp was originally from the village of Bakivtsi in the Lviv region. He is survived by his wife and young daughter,” the statement said.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, explosions were heard in Lviv overnight on February 22. At that time, there was no air raid alert in the city. Police stated that the blasts occurred after patrol officers arrived on the scene.

Preliminary investigation indicates that improvised explosive devices were detonated. The attack killed 23-year-old police officer and injured 25 others, three of whom were in critical condition.

Authorities quickly identified a person involved in the attack. A woman was detained in Staryi Sambir. A court ordered 60 days of pretrial detention without bail for her, while her accomplice from Kharkiv, who lured the police to the site, was also charged.

According to Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, there are grounds to believe that Russia was behind the ordering of this terror attack.
