Explosion reported at Russian military plant in Bashkortostan

An explosion occurred at a military plant in the Russian city of Sterlitamak, Bashkortostan region, on Friday, October 17.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the Telegram channel ASTRA.

The blast took place within the Avangard industrial zone in Sterlitamak. Eyewitnesses reported a smell of gunpowder spreading through the city.

Preliminary reports indicate that five people were injured. The city authorities have confirmed the explosion.

The cause of the blast is still unknown.

It is noted that Avangard manufactures weapons and ammunition and is also involved in the disposal of explosive materials. The plant additionally produces chemical products.

As Ukrinform previously reported, in August, an explosion and fire at the Elastik plant in Russia’s Ryazan region destroyed four buildings, including a warehouse storing TNT-loaded shells, in addition to the gunpowder workshop.
