Two separate traffic accidents occurred in Poland's capital involving a passenger bus and a truck, resulting in 17 people injured, including 12 Ukrainian nationals.

Piotr Owczarski, spokesperson for the Masovian Voivodeship's Meditrans emergency medical service in Warsaw, told an Ukrinform correspondent that both accidents occurred at around 04:30 Kyiv time in the Ursynow district.

"Seventeen people were injured in both accidents, when a bus crashed into protective barriers and overturned onto its right side and a TIR truck collided with a fire truck. Among the injured bus passengers were 15 individuals aged 17 to 59, including 12 Ukrainians, two Poles, one Spaniard, and one Belarusian. In the second crash, the 48-year-old Ukrainian truck driver and a Polish firefighter sustained injuries," Owczarski said.

He noted that the victims suffered head, chest, arm, and leg injuries and were transported to hospitals in Warsaw.

"Two individuals, including the truck driver, are in serious condition with life-threatening injuries," he added.

Owczarski described the incident as one of the largest rescue operations in Warsaw in recent times. Dozens of rescuers, police officers, and emergency vehicles were deployed.

"A full rescue zone was established at the scene. Within 20 minutes, medical aid was provided to all victims. Some, including the truck driver, had to be extracted from their vehicles using specialized equipment," he said.

The bus was registered in Poland but bore Ukrainian-language signage. It was carrying 26 passengers at the time of the crash. The truck involved in the second accident was operated solely by the driver.

According to Owczarski, the bus was the first to veer off the road and overturn. Minutes later, as emergency responders arrived at the scene, the truck slammed into a fire truck, injuring both the driver and a firefighter.

The rescue operation is expected to continue for several more hours. Authorities are investigating the causes of both accidents, including whether either driver was under the influence of alcohol.

In March 2021, two separate accidents involving Ukrainian buses occurred in Poland at the same location, just three weeks apart. Those incidents resulted in about ten fatalities and dozens of injuries.
