Kakhovka HPP dam blast: issues with drinking water in 19 settlements of Kherson region

In the Ukraine-controlled areas of Kherson region, drinking water supplies to 19 settlements remain complicated amid a massive flood in the area caused by the Kakhovka HPP dam breach.

That’s according to Oleksandr Prokudin, head of Kherson Regional Military Administration, Ukrinform reports.

"So far, the situation with drinking water supplies to residents of Novovorontsovska, Mylivska, and Novooleksandrivska communities and in the town of Beryslav is tense. There are 19 such settlements in total," Prokudin informed.

Also, according to the official him, 30,000 households in the Ostriv microdistrict of Kherson remain without a centralized water supply.

In the rest of the settlements, water supply has been set up “in one way or another.” Currently, the situation is constantly monitored and measures are being taken to find solutions to ensure a stable water supply to communities where such issues are have been reported, the administration chief emphasized. In particular, new and old wells are being set up and new water sources are being explored.

Prokudin emphasized that the water undergoes all the necessary stages of purification as all sanitary and hygienic standards are met so this water is safe for consumption.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, on the night of June 6, Russian troops blew up the Kakhovka HPP dam. In Kherson region, a rescue evacuation operation is underway to get people out of the flood-affected areas.
