Kakhovka HPP completely destroyed, cannot be restored – Ukrhydroenergo

The Russian occupation forces blew up the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant. As an engine room was blown up from the inside, the plant was destroyed completely and cannot be restored.

"On the night of June 6, Russian occupation forces blew up the Kakhovka HPP. As an engine room was blown up from the inside, the Kakhovka HPP was completely destroyed. The plant cannot be restored. As of 09:00 on June 6, the water level in the Kakhovka Reservoir is rapidly decreasing, the evacuation of people from potential flood risk areas has begun," the press service of PJSC Ukrhydroenergo hydro power generating company reports.

The company specified that an uncontrolled decrease in the reservoir’s level poses an additional threat to the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP. Water from the Kakhovka Reservoir is necessary for the NPP to receive power for turbine capacitors and safety systems. Now the NPP’s cooling pond is full. The Ukrainian staff of ZNPP monitors all indicators.

As reported, Russian troops blew up the Kakhovka HPP. In Kherson region, the evacuation of the population from dangerous places, which are at risk of flooding, has begun. Also, President Zelensky convened an emergency meeting of the National Security and Defense Council. He emphasized that the Kakhovka HPP dam explosion only confirms that the Russians must be expelled from every corner of the Ukrainian land.
