Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) Oleksiy Danilov has written a letter to Central Election Commission (CEC) Chairman Oleh Didenko demanding that the results of the October 25 local elections in Ukraine be established and made public immediately, the NSDC's press service has reported.

"Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov draws the attention of the Central Election Commission to the need to take immediate measures to establish the results of the local elections on October 25, 2020 and make them public immediately on the official CEC website," the report said.

According to the report, Danilov said in the letter that the CEC, within the new election law, is doing a lot to ensure the rights of Ukrainian citizens to elect and to be elected.

"At the same time, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine is recording an increase in social tensions and, as a consequence, the emergence of risks to national security in a situation related to insufficient awareness of the public about official election results," the press service quoted Danilov as saying.

Danilov recalled that according to the schedule of major organizational measures on preparing for and holding local elections on October 25, 2020, approved by the CEC on August 8, 2020, the deadline for establishing local election results is November 6, 2020 inclusive.

"At the same time, as of today, the results of local elections have not been established in some territorial constituencies," Danilov said.

"In view of the above, in the interests of national security and given that free and transparent elections are a prerequisite for ensuring the principle of democracy, a mandatory standard for a democratic, free and open society, I draw your attention to the urgent need to establish the results of the October 25, 2020 local elections and make them public immediately on the official website of the Central Election Commission," Danilov said.

Local elections took place in Ukraine on Sunday, October 25. Ukrainians elected deputies of regional, district, village councils, as well as heads of settlements, villages and cities. Most voters received four ballots each. The estimated number of voters in Ukraine is 27.2 million. The number of polling stations is more than 29,000. As of November 2, 2020, the CEC established local election results on the election of deputies to 108 local councils in 23 regions.
