Parliamentary election campaign begins in Ukraine

The campaign for early parliamentary elections began in Ukraine on Friday, May 24.

In accordance with the law of Ukraine "On the Election of People's Deputies of Ukraine," the electoral process on early parliamentary elections begins on the day following the publication of a respective decree without the adoption of any decision on its commencement by the Central Election Commission (CEC).

The presidential decree on the dissolution of the Verkhovna Rada and the holding of early parliamentary elections was published in the government's Uriadovy Kurier newspaper on May 23.

The CEC emphasized that it was ready to fulfill the statutory functions on holding early parliamentary elections on July 21, 2019.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the dissolution of parliament in his inaugural speech on May 20. On May 21, he signed a decree on the early termination of the powers of the Verkhovna Rada. On Thursday, May 23, the decree came into force following its publication in the government newspaper.
