May congratulates Zelensky on winning Ukraine's presidential election

British Prime Minister Theresa May has congratulated Volodymyr Zelensky on winning the second round of the presidential election in Ukraine.

She wrote this on Twitter.

"Congratulations to Volodymyr Zelensky on your election success," May wrote.

She noted that Ukraine's stability is essential for Europe's security and she looks forward to working closely with Zelensky.

"The UK is steadfast in its support for Ukrainian sovereignty," she added.

Earlier, British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt congratulated Zelensky on winning the presidential election and stressed that he would now truly be the "Servant of the People."

The second round of presidential elections in Ukraine was held on Sunday, April 21. With over 99% of ballots counted, Zelensky wins 73.23% of the vote, whereas the incumbent head of state, Petro Poroshenko, gets 24.45% of the vote.
