CEC registers Boiko as presidential candidate

Ukraine's Central Election Commission (CEC) has registered self-nominee Yuriy Boiko, a member of the Opposition Bloc Party, as a candidate for president.

Such a decision was made at a commission meeting on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent said.

As of January 22, the CEC has already registered 13 candidates for the post of Ukraine's president, in particular, Ihor Shevchenko, Serhiy Kaplin, Valentyn Nalyvaichenko, Vitaliy Skotsyk, Andriy Sadovy, Vitaliy Kupriy, Yevhen Murayev, Anatoliy Hrytsenko, Hennadiy Balashov, Olha Bohomolets, Oleksandr Shevchenko, Roman Nasirov, and Yuriy Boiko.

The presidential election campaign in Ukraine began on December 31. The nomination of candidates by political parties or by self-nomination and the submission of documents by candidates to the CEC will last until February 3, 2019. A candidate running for president or a party that nominated him or her for president must make a deposit of UAH 2.5 million. The registration of presidential candidates will last until February 8 inclusive.

Voting in the presidential election will take place on March 31, 2019, from 08:00 to 20:00.

In addition, citing the translated materials of foreign media outlets is possible only if there is a link to the website ukrinform.net and the website of a foreign media outlet. Materials marked as "Advertisement" or with a disclaimer reading "The material has been posted in accordance with Part 3 of Article 9 of the Law of Ukraine "On Advertising" No. 270/96-VR of July 3, 1996 and the Law of Ukraine "On the Media" No. 2849-Х of March 31, 2023 and on the basis of an agreement/invoice.
