Zhovkva: Cooperation between Ukraine and Azerbaijan will strengthen Europe’s energy security
Ihor Zhovkva, Deputy Head of the Office of the President, made these remarks in Kyiv at an event marking Azerbaijan’s Independence Day, according to Ukrinform.
“We have everything necessary to unlock the potential for cooperation between our countries and our peoples, particularly in the fields of energy, energy infrastructure, security, and logistics. Given the current challenges, the role of our countries in the transit of energy resources to Europe is not merely economically beneficial. It is about strengthening our collective resilience and strategically overcoming the entire European continent’s dependence on Russian gas,” Zhovkva noted.
He thanked the leadership and people of Azerbaijan for supporting Ukraine from the very first days of the large-scale Russian invasion. He also paid tribute to the citizens of Azerbaijan who stood shoulder to shoulder with Ukrainians in defense of our land.
Separately, the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office highlighted Azerbaijan’s assistance in restoring Ukraine’s energy infrastructure following Russian attacks.
“The amount of this assistance has already exceeded $12 million since 2022. Thanks to you, we have managed to restore electricity and heat to thousands of Ukrainian families,” the official said.
Ukraine is counting on Azerbaijan’s active participation in post-war reconstruction. “Thank you for Azerbaijan’s willingness to build a cultural center, a children’s and youth sports school, an arts center, and residential buildings in the city of Irpin. This is yet another significant and noble gesture of support from your country,” Zhovkva emphasized.
The Deputy Head of the Presidential Office emphasized Ukraine’s unwavering support for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and expressed hope for the further strengthening of bilateral relations.
As reported by Ukrinform, the building of the Azerbaijani Embassy was damaged as a result of the Russian army’s attack on Kyiv on the night of May 23–24.
