Russian tanker begins unloading oil in Cuba – Reuters

A Russian oil tanker started unloading oil at the Matanzas terminal in Cuba, marking the first significant energy shipment to the island since it was restricted by the administration of the U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to Ukrinform, citing Reuters, the Russian-flagged vessel "Anatoly Kolodkin" delivered approximately 700,000 barrels of oil and docked on Tuesday at the country's largest fuel terminal.

The United States said it allowed the oil delivery on humanitarian grounds amid a deep energy crisis in Cuba, which has been accompanied by prolonged power outages and problems in transportation and the healthcare system.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel stated that the country had not received oil tankers for three months.

The Kremlin said that Moscow would continue working to support Cuba, while the Trump administration noted that any further oil shipments would be considered on a case-by-case basis.

As Ukrinform previously reported, Trump had earlier indicated that he did not object to other countries, including Russia, supplying oil to Cuba.
