“Energy island” launched in Mykolaiv, covering 65% of critical infrastructure – Kim

This was stated in an interview with Ukrinform by Head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration Vitalii Kim.

“The ‘energy island,’ which provides electricity to social and critical infrastructure from alternative sources (cogeneration units, solar power plants), is now operational. This is the result of cooperation between authorities, businesses, and international partners. We have already tested this system twice – when, following shelling, there was a threat of heating being shut down across all of Mykolaiv,” Kim said.

According to him, the system currently makes it possible to cover 65% of the city’s critical infrastructure during blackouts. At the same time, the authorities aim to increase this figure to 91%, which is outlined in the community’s resilience plan.

He also noted that work is ongoing to restructure the system in order to channel more energy from alternative sources (solar and wind) from the region into the city, as there are still certain challenges in this area.

As reported, since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the Mykolaiv region has received more than 3,000 units of energy equipment to strengthen its energy resilience.
