First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal discussed the development of joint energy and cross-border infrastructure projects with Romanian Minister of Energy Bogdan-Gruia Ivan.

Shmyhal shared this information on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

One key initiative is the construction of two interconnectors between Ukraine and Romania, previously agreed upon by the presidents of the two countries.

“Today, my Romanian counterpart and I discussed the technical implementation of the project. The construction of two new lines will increase the capacity of the Ukrainian network and facilitate greater electricity imports,” Shmyhal wrote.

Special attention was also given to the development of the Vertical Gas Corridor. Shmyhal emphasized that the project has significant potential, particularly through the further expansion of its capacities with the involvement of Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities, which are the largest in Europe.

“This will more than double transport capacities. Such cooperation will make a significant contribution to meeting Europe’s gas needs,” he added.

Shmyhal thanked Romania for its consistent support of Ukraine, including humanitarian aid, the provision of generators, and emergency assistance in electricity supply, which  is especially important during the difficult winter period.
