Ukraine allocates new site for Rheinmetall ammunition plant

Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger said this in an interview with Ukrinform.

"Although the search for a suitable location was delayed, one has now been allocated to us. However, further organizational and regulatory issues still need to be clarified. We are ready to begin construction of the facility as soon as possible," Papperger said.

According to him, Rheinmetall has been commissioned to supply Ukraine with the equipment for an ammunition production facility. And the company fulfils these obligations.

Asked how Ukraine responded to Rheinmetall's proposal to localize the production of armored vehicles, Papperger said this had generated "considerable interest." However, he noted that such a project requires significant local investment, for which funding must be secured.

Overall, cooperation between Ukraine and Rheinmetall is progressing well, Papperger said. It covers various areas, including artillery ammunition, infantry fighting vehicles, air defense, space-based reconnaissance, mobile field hospitals, and more.

"We are grateful to be such an important industrial partner to the country's armed forces in many areas," Papperger said.

As reported earlier, in November – when the ammunition plant was initially expected to already be operational – the German company announced that construction had been postponed because Ukraine wanted to change the facility's location.
