EU imposes sanctions on 41 more tankers of Russia’s shadow fleet

Ukrinform
On December 18, the European Union imposed restrictive measures against 41 oil tankers belonging to Russia’s shadow fleet.

This is stated in a press release published on the website of the Council of the European Union, as reported by Ukrinform.

“The Council today imposed restrictive measures on an additional 41 vessels that are part of Russia’s ‘shadow fleet’ of oil tankers and contribute to Russia’s energy revenues,” the statement reads.

By this decision, the 41 tankers have been added to the list of vessels subject to a ban on access to ports and on the provision of a wide range of services related to maritime transport.

“This measure is intended to target non-EU tankers that are part of Putin’s shadow fleet circumventing the oil price cap mechanism or support the energy sector of Russia, or vessels that are responsible for transporting military equipment for Russia or involved in the transport of stolen Ukrainian grain and cultural goods from Ukraine,” the Council of the EU emphasized.

As a result of today’s decision, the total number of sanctioned vessels belonging to Russia’s shadow fleet has reached nearly 600.
