Ukrainian Defense Ministry explains essence of Build in Ukraine initiative

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry said this in a statement seen by Ukrinform.

Amid the full-scale war, Ukraine is not only repelling aggression but also transforming its defense industry. The state is now focusing not only on procuring or receiving finished products from international partners, but also on developing its own defense industry and establishing joint ventures with foreign companies.

One of the key elements of this process is the Build in Ukraine initiative.

Build in Ukraine aims to encourage foreign defense companies to establish production facilities directly in Ukraine. This approach not only ensures faster supply of weapons and equipment to Ukrainian forces but also turns Ukraine into a full-fledged player in the global defense technology market.

Several leading international companies have already launched or are in the process of setting up operations in Ukraine, including BAE Systems (United Kingdom) – joint production and maintenance of L119 howitzers; Rheinmetall (Germany) – development of repair and production facilities for armored vehicles; SAAB (Sweden) – agreements on joint production of air defense systems; Northrop Grumman (United States) – agreements on joint ammunition production.

In addition, companies specializing in advanced technologies – such as unmanned systems, cybersecurity, and counter-drone solutions – are entering the Ukrainian market. This strengthens Ukraine's defense capabilities while creating new jobs.

To date, more than 25 foreign companies are at various stages of localizing their production in Ukraine.

The Build in Ukraine initiative demonstrates that Ukraine is moving from being a recipient of defense aid to becoming a full-fledged partner in producing modern weaponry.

"This is a long-term strategy that strengthens national defense, stimulates the economy, and opens up new opportunities for international cooperation. Step by step, Ukraine is becoming Europe's hub for cutting-edge defense technologies – and this process is now irreversible," the ministry said.
