Zelensky: After one or two more attacks, Ukraine may need to import electricity

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that after one or two more attacks, Ukraine might have to start importing electricity.

He made this statement during a joint press conference with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"Perhaps after one or two more attacks, we will need to import electricity. We always use this option during the winter season, and this option remains open to us," Zelensky said.

He also noted that when it comes to gas supply, the key issue for Ukraine would be finding the necessary funds.

"They are attacking water supply systems and our gas infrastructure in general. That's why we've started talking about importing gas. We have our own estimates of what we might need, but the main issue is financial," Zelensky said.

He stressed that "as of now, gas itself is not the problem – the problem is having enough funds to purchase it."

Zelensky added that Ukraine has partners willing to supply without demanding immediate payment.

"These include, for example, our Norwegian partners and our partners from the European Union – we are counting on them. These may also be representatives from the East. We relied on these relationships last winter as well," he said.

During a joint press conference with Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha earlier today, Kaja Kallas said that the EU aims to provide Ukraine with an additional EUR 100 million in winter support, as Russia seeks to compensate for its failures on the battlefield with terrorist attacks on the energy infrastructure.
