The European Commission will propose speeding up the phase-out of Russian fossil imports, while the next package of European sanctions will target, in particular, Russian crypto assets, banks, and energy.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced this on X following a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump, Ukrinform reports.

"I had a good call with U.S. President Donald Trump on strengthening our joint efforts to increase economic pressure on Russia through additional measures. The Commission will soon present its 19th package of sanctions, targeting crypto, banks, and energy," von der Leyen wrote.

She reminded that Russia’s war economy, sustained by revenues from fossil fuels, “is financing the bloodshed in Ukraine.”

In this context, the European Commission will propose “speeding up the phase-out of Russian fossil imports.”
