Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal and Canadian Ambassador to Ukraine Natalka Cmoc discussed potential Canadian support for Ukraine’s production of long-range drones.

Shmyhal wrote this in a post on Telegram, as reported by Ukrinform.

During the meeting, Shmyhal expressed gratitude for Canada’s steadfast support since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

The discussion focused on expanding cooperation in the defense sector, with Canada already contributing through the “Danish model”—a highly effective framework for supporting.

The two sides also explored new initiatives aimed at strengthening Ukrainian forces.

According to Shmyhal, Canada is preparing a contribution to the PURL initiative, which facilitates Ukraine’s access to U.S. weapons and technology. The possibility of backing Ukraine’s domestic production of long-range drones—already demonstrating strong battlefield performance—was also discussed.

Additionally, Shmyhal presented the Defence City mechanism to the Canadian delegation. This initiative introduces a special legal framework designed to accelerate the development of Ukraine’s defense ecosystem.

“Together with Canada, we are strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities and building the foundation for lasting and sustainable peace,” Shmyhal emphasized.

As earlier reported by Ukrinform, Denys Shmyhal discussed preparations for the upcoming Ramstein-format meeting with UK Defense Secretary John Healey.
