The European Union and Germany are allocating additional €13 million and €5 million respectively to the Energy Efficiency Fund of Ukraine.

This was announced by EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarína Mathernová during a briefing in Kyiv, Ukrinform reports.

“Proud to announce today a new €18 million contribution to the Fund from the EU & Germany,” Mathernová said.

She emphasized that international partners continue to back the Fund because of its proven success. According to the Ambassador, the Fund has grown from 90 projects in 2021 to over 1,500, benefiting around 217,000 families and operating under the principle of "Build back better".

“By now the Fund annually saves energy consumption of a city like Chernivtsi,” the EU Ambassador noted.

Germany will continue its technical support for the Fund through the international cooperation agency GIZ, said Dr. Maximilian Rasch, Deputy Head of Mission of the German Embassy.

First Deputy Minister for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine Alyona Shkrum announced an upcoming meeting of the Donor Coordination Council of the Energy Efficiency Fund. The aim is to raise grant limits and expand support in response to the extensive war-related destruction. She added that the Cabinet of Ministers had identified a potential €5 million in additional domestic funding for the Fund.
