The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) have urged the acting head of Naftogaz to take a responsible approach to prevent the loss of UAH 1.6 billion that could be recovered from abroad.

NABU announced this via Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

The anti-corruption agencies are committed to recovering assets and combating corruption schemes that threaten national interests.

"There is now a real opportunity -- unprecedented in Ukraine's history -- to reclaim UAH 1.6 billion from abroad. For context, this sum could be used to purchase over 100,000 FPV drones," SAPO said.

However, anti-corruption agencies warned that the obstructive stance of Naftogaz's acting head could jeopardize this opportunity, despite their active efforts to secure the funds.

"Protecting national interests is a shared responsibility of all state institutions. Therefore, Naftogaz's leadership must take all necessary measures," the prosecutor's office said.

Anti-corruption authorities called for transparency and accountability, stating, "Ukraine cannot afford to lose significant assets due to inaction or lack of proper response."

Earlier, NABU Director Semen Kryvonos announced ongoing negotiations with international partners to recover $39 million frozen in Switzerland.

Additionally, he previously reported that last year, NABU detectives submitted 113 indictments to court, including cases against ten members of parliament, five Cabinet ministers and their deputies, nine judges, seven top-ranking civil servants, and four prosecutors.

Completed investigations revealed over UAH 26 billion in damages, with UAH 6.8 billion in assets frozen and UAH 23 billion in civil lawsuits filed. So far, the state has recovered UAH 304 million.
