USAID terminates agreement with Ukraine Energy Support Fund
As reported by Ukrinform, the Energy Community has issued a statement regarding this decision.
"The Energy Community Secretariat received a formal notification from USAID regarding the termination of its Grant Agreement with the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, valued at USD 75 million. The Energy Community Secretariat has acknowledged receipt of this notification and is currently awaiting further clarification from USAID. The termination of this grant will reduce the available funds for procuring essential equipment for Ukraine’s energy sector," the statement reads.
The letter from USAID was reportedly received on February 27.
In 2023, USAID entered into an agreement to provide a USD 25 million grant to the Energy Support Fund, and in 2024, it pledged to increase the grant by an additional USD 50 million.
As previously reported, on January 20, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order suspending all foreign aid programs for 90 days to conduct reviews and determine whether they align with his political objectives.
On January 24, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio ordered the "cessation of work" on all foreign aid programs, with the exception of emergency food assistance, which could apply to sectors in Gaza and Sudan.
On March 10, Rubio confirmed that the U.S. is officially closing 83% of USAID's programs.
