Supreme Court confirms PrivatBank’s legal nationalization

The relevant statement was made by the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“On February 26, 2025, the Supreme Court of Ukraine dismissed a cassation appeal by PrivatBank’s former co-owner Ihor Kolomoiskyi and upheld the decision of the court of appeal, which had closed the proceedings in the case of appealing the decisions of government authorities to withdraw PrivatBank from the market with the participation of the state,” the report states.

As emphasized by the regulator, the above decision of the Supreme Court is final and cannot be appealed.

The NBU mentioned that, on November 15, 2023, the Sixth Administrative Court of Appeal cancelled the decision of the District Administrative Court in the city of Kyiv, dated April 18, 2019, which had satisfied the claim by Ihor Kolomoiskyi, and closed the proceedings in the case.

A reminder that PrivatBank was nationalized on December 18, 2016 due to a critical reduction in its capital and the failure of shareholders to fulfill their obligations with regard to the bank’s financial recovery. The state spent over UAH 155 billion to recapitalize the bank.
