Ukraine ready to become gas hub for U.S. LNG in Europe – Zelensky

Ukraine intends to sign contracts for the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States via LNG terminals and is ready to become a hub for its further transportation to EU countries.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated this in an interview with Reuters, as reported by Ukrinform.

"We have our own natural gas and oil, but we are ready and willing to have contracts for the supply of LNG to Ukraine from the U.S. And we will be a hub for the whole of Europe. Why? Because we already have an industrially and naturally prepared hub— our gas pipeline network," Zelensky emphasized.

He noted that Ukraine has the largest gas storage facility in Europe, which was previously used by many European countries.

The president stressed that the U.S. LNG means free-market relations, unlike Russian gas, which is often used as a political tool for leverage.

"We support LNG supplies because it is a market-based price, and no one takes over your country. These are fair, contractual relations with our partners," Zelensky added.

According to the President, the Ukrainian team is already discussing this issue with President Trump administration which supports such initiatives.

As Ukrinform previously reported, a ceasefire without the de-occupation of seized territories would allow Russia to earn trillions of dollars from Ukraine’s natural resources and use these funds to strengthen its military for further offensives.
