The U.S. Treasury Department and the Department of State announced on Thursday the introduction of additional sanctions against Russia, which limit, first of all, the country’s military potential, as well as opportunities for income and access to high technology.

This is stated by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Treasury, reports Ukrinform.

“The designations announced today by OFAC and the Department of State take measures to inhibit Russia’s access to products that support its military and war efforts; reduce Russia’s revenue from the metals and mining sector; undermine its future energy capabilities; degrade Russia’s access to the international financial system; and starve Russia of G7-produced technology needed for its technology, aerospace, and defense sectors,” the statement reads.

At the same time, it is noted that the measures against the Russian Federation were introduced to fulfill the commitments made by the leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) countries in February and May 2023.

"One of the most common tactics Russian entities have used to continue their importation of foreign-made electronics and technology is the use of third-party intermediaries and transshipment points outside Russia," OFAC states.

In this regard, it is indicated that the Russian Federation used companies based, in particular, in the Kyrgyz Republic and Serbia to obtain dual-use technology. Then electronic equipment was used by the Russian side for the manufacture of Kalibr and Kh-101 missiles, Orlan-10 UAV, etc.

Thus, the U.S. added to the sanctions list 18 individuals from Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, and Serbia, involved in efforts to circumvent sanctions, as well as military-industrial production and other malicious activities on the part of the Russian Federation. In addition, more than 95 companies, organizations and financial institutions, as well as 14 cargo vessels registered under the Russian flag, were designated.

At the same time, the U.S. State Department introduced visa restrictions against nearly 120 individuals.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, on Thursday the European Union, UK, Canada, as well as other countries announced sanctions against Russia and its allies, which help Moscow circumvent restrictions imposed in connection with the ongoing aggression against Ukraine.
