Ukrinform
On May 2, 2023, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a law terminating the agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic on trade, economic, and technical cooperation.

Ukrinform reports this with reference to Ukraine's parliament.

"The law terminates the agreement between the government of Ukraine and the government of the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR) on trade, economic, and technical cooperation. Ukraine's legal framework needs to be brought in line with the current realities of international relations," the statement said.

The document is aimed at protecting national interests in connection with the severance of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and SAR. The latter supports the military and political leadership of Russia regarding its military invasion of Ukraine and recognizes the so-called "independence" of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine’s Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

As Ukrinform reported, in the summer of 2022, Ukraine severed diplomatic relations with SAR and imposed a trade embargo as SAR recognized "independence" of parts of Ukraine's Luhansk and Donetsk regions temporarily occupied by Russia.
