Ukraine launches modernized power line with Poland

Ukrinform
Ukraine and Poland have launched an interstate power line, which has already passed a three-day test period.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said this during a government meeting on May 2.

"After the modernization, the interstate power line between Ukraine and Poland was put into operation. Ukrenergo specialists and their Polish colleagues from PSE quickly carried out all the work. The European partners provided about a thousand units of equipment. The line has been in operation since April 27. It successfully passed the three-day test period," Shmyhal said.

According to him, the additional powerful interconnector increases export and import opportunities. Through electricity sales, Ukraine accumulates resources to restore the energy sector for the new heating season. In case of need, Ukraine will intensify imports to receive emergency assistance from its neighbouring countries.

"Ukraine's movement towards the European Union is not only about ambitions, but also about concrete results. We continue our successful sectoral integration into the EU. Right now, we are taking an important step towards uniting our energy systems," Shmyhal added.

As Ukrinform reported, the 750 kV Khmelnytska NPP-Rzeszów power line has not been in operation since the mid-90s. Ukraine has long called for the restoration of this line with Poland. The Polish energy company PSE insisted that it was impossible to restore this power line with such a voltage due to environmental requirements and the lack of relevant technical standards. Therefore, PSE decided to rebuild this 400 kV power line and synchronize it with the Ukrainian power grid.

Energoatom is preparing to launch an overhead line that will connect the Ukrainian and European power systems through Poland.
