The European Commission and Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria have agreed to ban the import of grain, corn, rapeseed, sunflower, and oil from Ukraine to the markets of these EU countries.

Mateusz Morawiecki, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, said this at a press conference, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"We have just agreed with the European Union to ban the import of those agricultural products that primarily led to the destabilization of the Polish market, mainly grains, and corn," Morawiecki said.

He added that he had recently spoken with European Commission Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis on the matter.

According to him, an agreement between the European Commission and five EU countries on the import of agricultural products from Ukraine will be signed "in the coming days".

According to RMF24, the agreement between the European Commission and five EU countries will stipulate that these countries will refuse to block the import of all agricultural products from Ukraine at the national level. Instead, a European ban on the import of wheat, corn, rapeseed, sunflower, and oil from Ukraine will be introduced. The publication notes that the ban will apply to 90% of all Ukrainian imports.

As earlier reported, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Bulgaria have imposed a temporary ban on imports of grain and other agricultural products from Ukraine. Poland also suspended the transit of Ukrainian agricultural products through its territory, but resumed it on April 21.

The European Commission has proposed an aid package for farmers from countries bordering Ukraine, which includes financial assistance and other measures.

Morawiecki also said that Poland would ask the European Commission to check market violations in connection with the import of other types of Ukrainian agricultural products, including poultry, milk and eggs.
