Poland to unblock transit of Ukrainian grain as of April 21 (updated)

Poland will unblock the transit of Ukrainian grain through its territory to ports in Europe on Friday, April 21. However, the ban on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products to the Polish market remains.

This was stated at a joint press conference in Warsaw by First Deputy Prime Minister – Economy Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solskyi, Polish Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Robert Telus, and Poland's Minister of Economic Development and Technology Waldemar Buda, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"As a result of our negotiations, which lasted two days, we decided that the transit of Ukrainian goods through Poland will be unblocked on Friday," Svyrydenko said.

As Ukrinform reported, on April 15, 2023, Poland imposed a temporary ban on imports of grain and other agricultural products from Ukraine. Poland also suspended the transit of Ukrainian agricultural products through its territory.

In addition, Hungary and Slovakia banned imports of grain and other agricultural products from Ukraine but did not stop transit. Bulgaria and Romania are considering suspending imports of Ukrainian agricultural products as well.

On April 17, 2023, the European Commission announced that it did not support the decision of member states to impose unilateral restrictions on the import of grain and other food products from Ukraine.
