Ukraine to receive $3.5B from Japan in 2023 - Ministry of Finance
According to Ukrinform, Ministry of Finance of Ukraine reported this following a meeting between Ukrainian Finance Minister Sergiy Marchenko and Japanese Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki.
"Ukraine greatly appreciates Japan's contribution to accelerating our victory in Russian war of aggression through systematic financial and humanitarian aid and sanctions pressure on Russia. By holding the G7 Summit in 2023, Japan demonstrates leadership in keeping the Ukrainian issue on the international agenda and coordinating financial assistance to Ukraine," Marchenko said.
He emphasized that in times of war, defense and security spending increases, and external financing plays a key role in maintaining macroeconomic stability.
Shunichi Suzuki confirmed the Japanese government's intention to provide USD 3.5 billion in direct budget support to Ukraine in 2023. These funds will help finance priority expenditures, including social and humanitarian ones.
Since the start of Russian full-scale war, Japan has provided Ukraine with USD 581 million in concessional financing.
As reported, since the beginning of 2023, Ukraine and Japan have agreed to allocate more than USD 600 million for Ukraine's restoration.
