Kubrakov outlines priority areas of Ukraine’s recovery

"Reconstruction needs are $411 billion. The priority is the reconstruction of critical infrastructure, housing, and important social and transport facilities. Here, we need the support from international partners, both financial and logistical," said Oleksandr Kubrakov, Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction – Minister of Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure Development, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine posted on Facebook with reference to the updated report of the World Bank.

It is noted that the direct damage for the first year of the war totaled $135 billion, and the losses incurred – about $290 billion.

The biggest direct damage was caused in the following areas: housing – $50.4 billion; transport – $35.7 billion; trade and industry – $10.9 billion; energy and mining industry – $10.6 billion; agriculture – $8.7 billion. The transport sector (more than 22% of the total need for restoration), housing (almost 17%) and energy (more than 11%) need the most funds for recovery.

"We are forming a digital ecosystem that will ensure complete transparency and openness of all processes related to reconstruction. In particular, it is about the creation of an Electronic Reconstruction Management System which will allow international partners and the public to monitor each stage of implementation of reconstruction projects," the minister added.

As reported, the World Bank presented the updated report "Ukraine Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment – RDNA2", studying the damage, losses, and recovery needs of Ukraine due to Russia’s full-scale invasion.

According to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, as a result of the full-scale aggression, Russia caused $600-750 billion in damage and destruction to Ukraine as of the beginning of 2023.
