Ukraine’s sunflower seed exports reach record high

From September 2022 to February 2023, Ukraine exported 1.54 million tonnes of sunflower seeds, which is a record high for the country.

“Since the beginning of the 2022/23 season (in September-February), Ukraine’s sunflower seed exports have reached a historic high - 1.54 million tonnes," APK-Inform Analytic and Information Agency reported.

It is noted that almost 80% of the total sunflower seed exports went to EU countries and 19% to Turkey. The leaders among importers were Bulgaria, which purchased 429,000 tonnes of sunflower seeds (the share of total imports was 28%) and Romania - 406,000 tonnes of sunflower seeds (26%).

According to APK-Inform assessments, in the second half of the 2022/23 season, Ukraine’s sunflower seed exports will reach about 800,000-900,000 tonnes.

As reported by Ukrinform, Ukroliyaprom Association projects that Ukraine will process 8.5-10 mln tonnes of sunflower seeds in 2022/2023, with exports reaching 2-3.5 mln tonnes.
