The ship Neva has delivered 25,000 tonnes of food wheat to Somalia as part of the Grain from Ukraine program.

The Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development said this in a Facebook post, Ukrinform reports.

"We are sure that this batch of Ukrainian grain will be a new step for long-term cooperation and fight against the causes of food shortages. This is our contribution to the restoration of a safe and stable future," Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction, Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development Oleksandr Kubrakov said.

He added that the bulk carrier Neva left the port of Odesa on December 9. The costs of cargo logistics were borne by the governments of Finland, France and Japan. This is already the second batch of Ukrainian wheat for Somalia. In autumn, a ship loaded with 28,500 tonnes of wheat left the Pivdennyi port as part of the "grain initiative".

As reported, the Grain from Ukraine program was initiated by the President of Ukraine. It provides for the purchase of Ukrainian grain by partner countries and its delivery to states experiencing a humanitarian crisis. The program is implemented in partnership with the World Food Program under the auspices of the United Nations.
