Minister Galushchenko: 90% of wind energy facilities put out of service due to war

As a result of the Russian full-scale invasion, 90% of wind energy facilities and 45-50% of solar energy facilities have been put out of service in Ukraine.

The relevant statement was made by Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko in an interview with We-Ukraine Channel, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“Green energy is probably the most affected industry, as most of our capacities have been located in southern Ukraine. We have lost about 90% of wind energy facilities and 45-50% of solar energy facilities. These are huge losses,” Galushchenko told.

Meanwhile, Galushchenko expressed confidence that Ukraine has high potential in terms of renewable energy development, namely the wind energy sector. In his words, Europe would be interested in investing in this area after the war ends.

“We had a strategy, according to which the share of green energy would have reached at least 25% in Ukraine’s energy balance in 2030. I think, after our victory and considering the destructions caused by Russia, we will revise it and increase the share,” Galushchenko noted.

A reminder that Russia has been massively attacking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure with missiles and suicide drones since October 10, 2022. Over 45 energy facilities were damaged across Ukraine.
