Due to a fire caused by Russian shelling, the last power transmission line connecting the Zaporizhzhia NPP with Ukraine’s power grid was turned off today, power unit No. 6, which supplies the NPP's own needs, was disconnected from the network.

Ukraine's National Nuclear Energy Generating Company Energoatom said in a Telegram post, according to Ukrinform.

"Today, September 5, 2022, as a result of a fire caused by shelling, the 330 kV power line of Zaporizhzhia TPP – Ferosplavna, i.e. the last line that connected the ZNPP/ZTPP node to Ukraine’s power grid, was disconnected! As a result, power unit No. 6, which currently supplies the ZNPP’s own needs, was unloaded and disconnected from the network," Energoatom said.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) mission visited the Zaporizhzhia NPP on September 1. On the same day, most of the delegation members left the facility captured by Russia. Six representatives of the mission remained at the nuclear power plant. The IAEA plans to ensure the permanent presence of two of its representatives at the nuclear power plant.

The ZNNP, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, has been captured by the Russian military since March 4. Since then the invaders have places military equipment and ammunition in the territory of the nuclear plant, as well as have been shelling the surrounding area.
