The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has been reconnected to Ukraine's power grid and is generating electricity for the country.

According to Ukrinform, the press service of Ukraine's Nuclear Energy Generating Company Energoatom said this in a Telegram post.

"Today, on August 26, 2022, at 14:04, one of the Zaporizhzhia NPP's reactors, which was stopped yesterday, has been reconnected to the power grid. It is building up capacity," the post said.

The company said it had no objections to the operation of equipment and safety systems.

"Nuclear technicians of the Zaporizhzhia NPP are real heroes! They tirelessly and firmly ensure the nuclear and radiation safety of Ukraine and the whole of Europe and work selflessly so that their native country could have life-sustaining electricity," Energoatom said.

On August 25, fires at the Zaporizhzhia thermal power plant caused the nuclear plant's last remaining power line to disconnect twice. The plant's three other power lines had been damaged by enemy fire. As a result, the plant's two operating reactors were disconnected from the electricity grid. Thus, the actions of the invaders caused a complete disconnection of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant from the power grid, for the first time in its history.
