According to the Latvian company, the Baltic electricity market will be connected only with Poland and the Scandinavian countries from June 1.

One of the reasons for this decision in AST called problems with payments: several banks, through which money was previously transferred to Russia, are now under sanctions.

The changes introduced by the electricity transmission system operators will reduce the dependence of the Baltic States on the Russian energy system, and will contribute to ensuring the balance of electricity of the Baltic power system with the balancing capacities in the Baltic Sea region.

Previously, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania used the services of the Russian energy company Inter RAO to this end.

The Baltic energy system will remain physically connected to the Russian system until they are fully synchronized with the European energy system, which is due by 2025.
