Sowing campaign launched in 11 regions of Ukraine

The projected area of spring crop plantations for 2022 is 5,990 thousand hectares in 11 regions of Ukraine.

The relevant statement was made by the Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“As of March 23, 2022, the projected area of the main spring crop plantations within the Ukrainian-controlled territory is 5,990 thousand hectares, which is 1,689 thousand hectares lower compared to the same period last year,” the report states.

As of March 23, 2022, all categories of households already sowed 22.5 thousand hectares with spring wheat (compared to the projected area of 157.4 thousand hectares), 74.8 thousand hectares with spring barley (1,036.5 thousand hectares), 1.6 thousand hectares with spring rapeseed (23.9 thousand hectares), 15.2 thousand hectares with oats (134.0 thousand hectares), 21.1 thousand hectares with peas (172.2 thousand hectares).

In addition, sugar beets were sown on 3.3 thousand hectares (compared to the projected area of 201.9 thousand hectares), sunflowers – on 2.2 thousand hectares (4,811.0 thousand hectares), soybeans – on 2.0 thousand hectares (1,041. 4 thousand hectares).

According to the recent data from regions, winter crops for grain harvest purposes were sown on 7.7 million hectares in 2022, which is 0.4 million hectares higher compared to last year.
