Sweden to provide EUR 22M to Ukraine annually to support reforms

As part of a new strategy for cooperation, Sweden will allocate EUR 22 million to Ukraine annually within the next seven years.

Minister for International Development Cooperation of Sweden Matilda Ernkrans announced at a briefing following the meeting with Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister - Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories, Iryna Vereshchuk in Kyiv, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"We will provide our support under both the cooperation program and humanitarian support. The Swedish government has recently decided on a new seven-year regional reform strategy between Sweden and Ukraine, with increased funding. As part of cooperation, Ukraine will receive about 22 million euros yearly for reforms,” she said.

The minister has noted that the assistance will help build Ukraine's sustainable economy and sustainable society.

As reported, at the meeting with the Swedish delegation, Vereshchuk discussed the most important needs of the Ukrainian population affected by the conflict in eastern Ukraine and occupation of Crimea.

Earlier, Vereshchuk and representatives of the partner states - Great Britain, Canada, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States - signed a memorandum to establish the Partnership Fund for a Resilient Ukraine to help communities affected by Russian aggression.
