Stefanishyna: Ukraine will be recognized as priority country in product supplies to EU

Ukraine expects domestic rail and water transport to be included in the priority chains of product supplies to the European Union within the framework of the European Green Deal.

Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanishyna said this during a press conference on the results of international climate negotiations for Ukraine on November 22, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

The Deputy Prime Minister reminded that last week in Brussels she held a series of talks on transport policy.

"The EU is currently reviewing the system of operation of the TEN-T network [Trans-European Transport Network], that means supply chains, taking into account the European Green Deal. On December 14, a new approach to the system of product supplies to the EU will be announced, in which Ukraine will be recognized as a priority country. In particular, railways and waterways will be given a priority," Stefanishyna said.

She noted that this process will be quite long, as well as the implementation of the law on inland waterways, which will come into force on January 1. "But we are already laying the foundation for our waterways to be included in the EU's supply chain. This will require changes in our transport strategy and investment in infrastructure," Stefanishyna explained.

As reported, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanishyna discussed during a meeting with EU Commissioner for Transport Adina Vălean in Brussels the implementation of the provisions of the Common Aviation Area Agreement with the EU in Ukraine, the inclusion of Ukrainian rivers in the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), as well as the settlement of the issue of the number of permits for Ukrainian road hauliers.
