NSDC warns it could introduce interim administrations in regional energy companies

The National Security and Defense Council is looking into introducing interim administrations into privately-owned energy companies if a threat to national security arises.

That’s according to NSDC Secretary Oleksiy Danilov who spoke at a briefing in Kramatorsk following the Council’s field meeting on Friday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"We see signs of monopolization in the market. Today we’re looking at several names: Mr. Akhmetov, Novynsky, the Surkis brothers, Grigorishin, Boholiubov, Kolomoisky, Liovochkin, Boyko, and a Russian citizen Voevodin who own the network. In case a threat arises to national security and defense, we’re considering the issue of introducing interim administrations (into regional energy companies – ed.)," Danilov said.

The Secretary also stressed that the authorities will not allow current owners to manipulate energy tariffs. Among the challenges the authorities are facing is preventing electricity price hikes for vulnerable population strata.

As reported earlier, in early July, the National Energy and Utilities Regulation Commission (NEURC) launched an investigation into the activity of electricity market players in the day-ahead market. The inquiry into violations in the electricity market is underway into United Energy, D. Trading, DTEK Dniproenergo, DTEK Zahidenergo, Centrenergo, Ener G, Energozahid, Ecotech Energy, Entra M, Utility Trading, Artlex-Energy, and ONK-Group.

Seeing signs of anti-competitive concerted action on the electricity market, the Antimonopoly Committee on its own initiative has launched the relevant investigation.
