Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko has met with Austrian Ambassador to Ukraine Gernot Pfandler to discuss prospects for expanding cooperation in the field of carbon neutrality, the Ukrainian Energy Ministry's press service has reported.

"Ukraine and Austria have been cooperating for a long time in the field of hydropower and energy efficiency and are planning to continue to develop their partnership. At the same time, current trends provide an opportunity for new areas of cooperation. In this regard, the parties discussed prospects for expanding cooperation to achieve climate neutrality and develop renewable energy," the report reads.

The Energy Ministry said Ukraine was interested in studying Austria's experience as Austria set the goal of switching completely to renewable energy by 2030 and becoming carbon neutral by 2040.

Halushchenko said possible areas for expanding cooperation with Austria included renewable energy, the creation of highly maneuverable capacities, energy storage systems, and the hydrogen economy.

Ukraine and Denmark earlier signed a new cooperation agreement within the Ukrainian-Danish energy partnership program in 2021-2026. The energy partnership with Denmark is expected to help improve the conditions for introducing the latest environmentally friendly energy technologies and attracting investment in sustainable energy in Ukraine.
