Ukraine and the Republic of Turkey have agreed on cooperation in the energy sector, in particular on the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Ukrainian Energy Deputy Minister for European Integration Yaroslav Demchenkov said this during the fifth meeting of the Ukrainian-Turkish working group on energy on Friday, Ukrinform reports.

"Our government is deeply interested in intensifying joint projects between Ukraine and the Republic of Turkey in the field of energy. I would like to note the significant potential of the bilateral partnership in the energy sector, in particular, in the oil and gas and nuclear industries, power industry, as well as in the context of building generating capacity and alternative energy sources," he said.

According to Demchenkov, the parties already agreed to promote cooperation of energy companies in the diversification of natural gas supplies to Ukraine, which includes the development of LNG terminal infrastructure.

The countries also decided to cooperate in transporting natural gas through the Trans-Balkan pipeline in both directions between Ukraine and Turkey.

As Ukrinform reported, Azerbaijan may become one of the new sources of gas supplies to Ukraine.
